What does a Senior Decision Science Analyst do?
Decision science analysts enlist statistical concepts and scientific insights to help promote informed actions by organization leadership. They compile and analyze statistical data and use that information to support recommendations for certain actions and decisions. Using their scientific insight and expertise, they drive strategic planning from a fact-based approach. They provide insight on customer behavior, competitor trends, and overall industry intelligence.
Decision science analysts typically have at least a bachelor’s degree, which would likely be in a math or economics field, although an advanced degree is a plus. They must be well-versed in statistical concepts and processes, and adept at applying statistical techniques to business situations and to guide decision making. They must also be comfortable using data analysis tools and technologies, data visualization tools, and presentation software.
- Compare DSS cost data to source data (feeder systems) and investigates all variances.
- Maintain ongoing review of the cost accounting processes within the DSS.
- Serve as a liaison between the Decision Support team and the Manager of Decision Support.
- Assume lead role in coordinating financial feasibility analysis for proposed/new programs, proformas, etc.
- Perform daily audits of the data, participate in service line report meetings, and assist in the development of Service Line reports.
- Perform project management/consulting for the development and implementation of various financial projects.
- Assume lead role and responsibility for cost data preparation and maintain, cost allocation process.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure accuracy of data loads from feeder systems per established schedule and carefully validates and resolve errors quickly.
- Routinely suggest improvements to increase efficiency in data preparation and review process, taking in account the duplication of effort companywide.
- Continuously work to improve report writing skills and understand use and importance of information being collected and analyzed.
- Bachelor's Degree in business or engineering.
- Advanced understanding of big data and statistics.
- Experience with frameworks.
- Strong problem solving, time management, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
