What does a QC Analyst do?

QC analysts are responsible for establishing, implementing, overseeing, and enforcing quality control standards in a manufacturing or technical production environment. They are involved in all phases of the production lifecycle from evaluating raw materials to inspecting finished products to verify they meet target specifications. They may conduct testing, take measurements, or perform other assessments, which in some settings may include chemical analysis. They also establish quality control standards and evaluation protocol, and may implement automated testing or inspection processes.

QC analysts typically have at least a bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical field, although advanced training or education is an asset. A background in quality control or roles involving enforcing and adhering to quality standards is preferred. These roles require highly organized specialists with meticulous attention to detail.

What responsibilities are common for QC Analyst jobs?
  • Lead a team of 3-5 full- and part-time manual software testers
  • Conduct analysis and investigations in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Peer review testing and documentation completed by other analysts.
  • Compile and review data to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Execute test plans and scripts to facilitate complex testing activities.
  • Assist in any follow up research to assist the investigation.
  • Review new products and proposed changes to existing products.
  • Ensure that all batch record documentation is accurate and delivered on time.
  • Verify material expiry dates and properly disposing of expired materials.
  • Work closely with the group to coordinate calibration testing activities.
  • Create documentation and test plans to validate product design.
  • Perform compliance walks and complete routine cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Maintain documentation of all work performed in accordance with GMP requirements.
  • Develop, revise, and review SOPs, protocols, and technical reports.
  • Assess inspection schedule with input from daily production meetings.
  • Perform and coordinate calibration activity related to mechanical inspection equipment.
What are the typical qualifications for QC Analyst jobs?
  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in computer science, business, engineering or information systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with R Language, HPLC, HACCP, and enterprise resource planning.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and problem solving skills.
