What does a Practice Manager do?

Practice managers are responsible for the daily operations of a medical office or clinic, from managing staff to handling patient interactions. Duties include assisting with the onboarding process of new hires, providing training for staff, ensuring legal obligations are met and handling patient complaints and concerns effectively. In terms of career advancement, a practice manager may progress into a directorial or executive role.

Practice managers almost always have an undergraduate degree in nursing or healthcare management. Due to the level of control given to practice managers, most companies require extensive experience working in a managerial position in a clinical or medical setting. Beyond a strong understanding of administrative healthcare systems, successful practice managers also possess excellent customer service, strong leadership and organizational skills.
